THE TALL BOOK OF NURSERY TALES
The Tall Book of Nursery Tales.
This is one of my favorite books from my childhood. It doesn't give an author. Maybe the stories are copied word for word from originals. The illustrator is Feodor Rojankovsky.
This story always frightened me. A wolf in Grandma's bed? And what on earth was wrong with Little Red Riding Hood's eyesight? The first thing I would have noticed was Grandma's facial hair but Red never says a word about it. 
Someone felt the urge to color the Ugly Duckling pink! I'm sure it was one of my sisters.
The story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff was way familiar. The bridge to Aunt Dee's house had a troll under it. Everybody said so. I believed in the troll until I left for college.
I always wanted the picture of the Three Bear's beds to be in color.
This picture of Little Red Riding Hood jumping down all those stairs was a picture all three of us girls connected with. Pat, Julie and I always jumped the last seven stairs of our seventeen step staircase. Mom said we'd be sorry someday. "You'll ruin your knees," she said countless time. We jumped anyway. We're sorry.
I think this was my favorite picture in the whole book. I wanted a bed just like that. I still do.
And this one always perplexed me. What man would wish a sausage were on the end of his wife's nose? And since he still had one wish left he could have cut the sausage off and still had that castle his wife wanted.
As you can see, looking at the binding, this book won't make it through too many more children reading it. I think I'll keep it in a safe place but will let Bookworm read it. She loves books so much and I know she will love this one from my childhood.
