DO YOU REMEMBER JUMP ROPE RHYMES?

This is the one I remember the best:

Not last night but the night before,
A Pickle and a pear came a knocking at my door.
I went downstairs to let them in,

They hit me over the head with a rolling pin.

This one I made up for Hillary when she was ten:

Hillary, Hillary, Hillary Snyder.
Went to bed with her hair on fire.
Woke in the morning with coal black hair,
Ashes, ashes, everywhere.

(I have no idea why I pictured my little girl with her hair was on fire--she had lovely dark brown hair but certainly not on fire and not black.)

And this one was for Bentley:

Bentley Snyder, our baby in blue.
He's a year and a half old, he's not quite new.
He stands on the table and throws off the food.
We're not really sure but we think it's rude.

What jump rope rhymes do you remember?

I directed a play about Lizzie Borden a few years ago so I know:

Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks,
When she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one.

Lynne - you always make me laugh - I remember jumping rope at recess was my favorite pastime - if only I jumped rope now my arse wouldn't be so big! lol

Girl, I can't spell that good. One about doctors and countin, and shoot mostly I was just trying not to mess up. I'm really impressed with the little black girls that do the Double Dutch.

I want your kitty in the pumpkin...oh he's a cutie.

We are all about jumprope songs at our house right now - comes with an 8 yr old in the house I think. He's the current favorites:

Ice cream soda with a cherry on top,
Who's your boyfriend I forgot,
a, b, c, d, ....
(until you mess up and that's the first letter of your boyfriend's name)

Down in the vally where the green grass grows,
There sat _______ (name of jumper) as pretty as a rose.
Along came _________ (current cute boy) and kissed her on the cheek,
How many kisses did she get this week?
1, 2, 3, 4,.....
(same thing, jump till they miss)

Here's one I remember from when I was little that I'm teaching the girls:

Cinderella, dressed in yella, went up stairs to kiss a fella,
By mistake she kissed a snake,
How many doctor's did it take?
1, 2, 3....(you get the idea)

I'm sure there are more, but I'll have to add them when the kiddos get home from school.

Now handclaps - that's a whole 'nother story. I could sing those to you all day long!

The only one that pops into my head is the scary one from Nightmare on Elm Street movies.

One, two Freddie's coming for you...

And so on.

What can I say? I'm a sick and twisted child of the 80s. ;)

I couldn't think of any until other's started posting theirs. Now I'm going to be reciting them in my sleep!

You forgot to mention that my jumprope rhyme was because you use to put my hair up in sponge curlers at night. I'ld be cute at a button with a head full of curly locks for morning.

And there is the proof that I have suffered for beauty.

The end

PS: I always thought it was "cold black hair" when in fact it was "coal black" Which makes lots more sense.

Tried to send you an email, but I don't seem to have an address that works.

Hope you're doing OK.

Love you and thinking of you,
Lisa
