HOW I AM "CREEPED OUT" VERY LATE AT NIGHT

1. Get a phone call from our daughter, Her Excellency of Mousehole. I am sure someone is dead. "Hello," I say in a breathless, Ican'tstandtohearthebadnews kind of voice.

"I'm bored," she says. At which point I want to put my hand through the phone and strangle her.

"Do you know what time it is?" I say, in a voice faint with relief.

"You're up," she says. "You're always up."

"Well, yes, I'm up," I said, ignoring the reference to my always being up, "but I'm going to bed in a minute, I might NOT have been up."

"But you are, so what's the big deal?"

At which point I seriously contemplate getting in the car, driving to her apartment FORTY MILES AWAY and strangling her.

2. I have a little ceramic bird that I got from Aunt Dorothy, It chirps when it is touched or picked up. The batteries were dead and I thought the grandkids would be amused with it, so I had Phil put new ones in it.
That was several days ago and all the grandkids that have been here were amused.

Last night I was up alone--very late. Did I mention I was alone? Phil had long gone to bed. The house is quiet and did I mention the bird only chirps WHEN IT IS TOUCHED OR PICKED UP? The bird chirps. Both cats are in plain sight, snoozing. So, who was upstairs, touching or picking up the bird?
It took me forever to get enough courage to go upstairs. the bird was alone. Sitting there as if nothing unusual had happened. I fled upstairs to the bedroom and locked the door. It's funny, isn't it, how an inanimate object can spook you like that. It is funny. Isn't it? And it did chirp all by it's self. Didn't it? All by itself?

You always make me laugh, well, at least giggle. I was talking to my dad one night suggesting looking for something in his basement. He said he didn't think so, not at night anyway. He finally confessed that he didn't like the "feeling" of the basement at night. I laughed, not at him, because I feel the SAME WAY! So I get it about the chirping birdie!

Wait! It could have been a sneaky mouse! I hate those, too! 8-)

Our old TV used to turn on, and turn the volume up by itself in the middle of the night. I got it fixed. I get scared at stupid stuff like my best friend coming up the stairs to the bathroom while I am blowdrying my hair. I shot her with that blowdryer. Poor Em.

All people need a little mysterious mechanical monster in their lives.

If you can hear a bird chirping when no one is there, does a falling tree in the forest make a noise if no one is there? Just a thought.

Aydan has a robotic scary monster guy that you have to turn on to function, but several times at night, that monster thing has gone on by itself!! Seriously!

I finally had to hide it in his closet because he was scared of it.

Creepy!!

Scary stuff. Like the time I found the basement door open when I was alone one night (husband out of town). Think I didn't have a little trouble getting to sleep that night?

I say take the little birdie's batteries out. Now. (and then if he chirps, you REALLY have problems!)

Christian used to have a toothbrush that sang for two minutes so he would know how long he should brush his teeth. He USED to have it because it started singing all by itself in the middle of the night. The Thomas the Tank Engine song. Then, it went crazy and started singing too fast (sounding like British chipmunks) and too slow. We couldn't even get it to turn off. I had to wrap it up in something and stuff it in the very way back of the closet until it was light outside and I could take it to the outside garbage. I believe if you go to the dump, you may still hear it...

I love your blog. But how come practically every post reminds me of something that happened to me?

When I was in Montana, I had a microwave oven that would turn on all by itself in the middle of the night and wake me up. That would totally freak me out. In the same house, when I walked on a certain floor board, the stereo would also turn on. Crazy, huh?

After I moved here, I bought an Easter egg that would chirp if you twisted it the right way, but then, it started chirping in the middle of the night with nobody around to twist it-- when both Randy and I were in bed asleep. It really was really startling to be awakened from a deep sleep like that. This happened off and on for a couple of weeks, so I finally put it away.

K, I am all freaked out about your bird. I easily get spooked though, and often have all lights and TV's on when my husband is gone out of town. And this also brought back all sorts of bad memories of my posessed microwave we had while I was growing up--I see my mom also mentioned already. Seriously creepy. And I can totally relate.
